Perhaps you’ve noticed I haven’t blogged in more than a month. That’s because I’ve been Tweeting instead. I can’t say I necessarily like the whole Tweeting phenomenon that has people stopping their own lives to track what Ashton Kutcher is doing, but Twitter has done a couple of interesting things for me.
One development is that I now “tweet” my ideas more frequently than I was blogging them, because the barriers to entry are much lower with tweeting than with blogging. I can just tap the Twittelator app on my iPhone and send off my trend observation without having to craft an article or upload a photo. Done. Plus, since these Trend Tweets instantly go out to my “followers,” the article doesn’t have to wait for people to remember to go to thefoodscout.com to read my latest blogs, or for a search engine to catalog them so they can be found in a google search.
The other interesting, and unexpected, development is that I am connecting to entities whom I never expected to connect with. If you look at my followers on www.twitter.com/trendwolf (technically, I just need to say “@trendwolf,” but if you’re someone who is just discovering blogs I can’t expect you to have a clue about tweets, too), you’ll see that my following includes Denny’s, Dunkin Donuts, McDonald’s (supposedly), Chipotle, Dorothy Lane Markets, and a bunch of other people I’m not really sure about.
I haven’t exactly figured out how it works, but it seems that about every company I’ve tweeted about magically finds my tweet and starts following my future ones. I suppose they’re hoping I will tweet about them more often (or maybe it’s really the legal departments keeping tabs on me), and I must admit it puts a little pressure on me because I don’t want to disappoint my entourage!
